Cornish Seniors Golf Association

CSGA

Welcome to the website of the Cornish Seniors Golfing Association.  We were formed in 1971 to promote Senior Golf in the County of Cornwall.
The aims of the Association are:
to promote comradeship and golf for Senior Gentlemen Golfers in Cornwall.
to  organise meetings and competitions.

Competition

There are 6 events each year held at clubs throughout the county between April and October with 5 (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Captain, President) played as a pairs betterball. The other meeting is a Mixed event (partner must be a senior lady golfer) for the Hilda Williams Salver and is played as a Rye Greensomes. This differs from the usual Greensomes in that the the one player plays all the 2nd shots on the even holes and the other on all the odd holes. Also the handicap allowance is 60% or lower plus 40% of higher.

The cost of each event is about £30 to include golf, 2-course meal and prizes. Individual entries are acceptable and the Secretary will endeavour to find a “pair”.

There are also annual fixtures against the Senior Gentlemen Golfers of the Counties of Devon (home and away in mid-May) and Kent (alternate years home and away usually July).

The competitions are listed in detail on the Events page, entry forms, start times and results will be available when the appropriate link is “live”.

Membership

New members are most welcome.  There are very few conditions — you need to be a full playing member of a Cornish golf club and be  at least 55 years of age.  The current annual membership fee is £5.00.
For more details contact your local Club Rep or the Secretary.

Committee

The association is run by a committee of 6 officers (President, Captain, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-President & Vice-Captain) together with 1 representative from every club in Cornwall (Club Reps)
The Officers are elected at the November meeting.

Latest News

On Friday the 8th of April at West Cornwall Golf Club we staged our first event of the season.  The weather on the day treated us kindly except for a horrendous 5 minute hail shower that we watched coming towards us from St Ives.

40 players set off playing a 2BBB competition off %85 handicap difference.  There was a nearest the pin prize on the 15th and a 2s competition entering via the pro shop.

The catering afterwards was Shepherds Pie and mix vegetables.   I did not hear of any complaints and there was not much left on the plates either, always a good sign.

The presentation started with a minutes silence as a mark of respect for a very well respected member of our association that sadly passed away a few weeks ago. R. I. P. Brian Foley.

There were six 2’s on the day but unfortunately two members did not enter this competition lol.  So David Crossley, Michael Page, Geoff Saunders and Preston Ford collected two sleeves of golf balls.

Nearest the pin was won by Phil Macey with a shot that must have been so close to a hole in one.

The main prizes of the day was won with a great score of 44pts by Nick Watters and Andrew Hurrell. Second prize with 42pts was our Captain Andrew Corfield and Allen Evans and third place winning on countback with 41pts was Geoff Saunders and Gordon Tapmore.

The normal raffle draw ended a superb day and I’m sure our new members of our association were not disappointed with joining the Cornish Seniors Golfing Association.

The next event is live to book now on our web page the date is the 27th of April at The Point Golf Club.
