President’s Shield at Porthpean – Thursday 13th August 2027

Report:

Another absolutely scorching day in this long, hot and dry summer we’re having. Fortunately as the Captain came in the last group it meant speeches were kept very brief with no ‘dad jokes’ due to exhaustion.

Some good scores on a tricky course undergoing transition to a longer Par 69 by next season.

Food after the meal served as groups came in was scampi, chips, mushy peas & tartare sauce. Very nice it was too. Well done Porthpean. 👍

Onto the results:-
2s – you have to be init to win it! The only recorded ones weren’t entered so the £20+ in the pot will rollover and be in the 2s pot at Tehidy Park.

Nearest-the-pin was won in the first group by John Frewer. 👏

1st on 42pts winning 3-bottles of wine each and their names on the President’s Shield, John Frewer & Brian Joy

2nd on 39pts winning 2-bottles of wine each, Jim Arymar & John Lougher

3rd on 38pts winning a bottle of wine each, Brian Yates & Simon Waddington

Thanks as always to Alan Price for arranging the booking, Steve Marks for dealing with the finances, Melvin for helping with the raffle and everyone for playing.

Well done to all and hope to see you for Captain’s Day at Tehidy Park.

WHS Update

WHS have made changes to the Handicapping system by adding (Course Rating – Course Par) to the current Course Handicap!
This change will affect lower handicap golfers more than higher ones.
It is now possible to submit a 4BBB score for handicap under certain conditions.
There is also a change to the score recorded for a hole not played.

The details can be found by clicking this link – WHS Changes
