Looe event report

Looe results

Thu 23rd July

Wow! What a scorcher – again. 🥵

It was a bad start to the day. Some idiot got the tee times wrong by 1-hour so lots of hanging about. 🫣 Mia culpa. In the end we did tee off only 45-mins late (or 15-mins early by the Chancellor’s way of delivering figures). Sorry. I tried falling on my sword but like my putts I missed.

The course was the same as most others at the moment; brown on the fairways and approaches making it tricky to judge wedges into the green. Or so I thought. Some players didn’t seem to have any difficulties at all.

The early pace-setters on 41-pts were group-by-group edged down the leaderboard so that in the end:
1st – Jerry Billins & Brian Joy with 45pts – 3-bottles of wine each and the Summer Salver trophy
2nd – Fred Grist & Jim Sinclair-Smith with 43pts – 2-bottles of wine each
3rd – Clive Hawke & Bruce Hutchison with 42pts – 1-bottle of wine each

Brian Joy had the only 2 and so scooped £34
John Frewer was nearest-the-pin on the 12th receiving a bottle of wine.
The raffle took in £148.

Welcome to new CSGA players Nick Hatton, Peter Tunnicliffe, Bruce Hutchison and Jeremy Robins.

The meal afterwards was nice although it had been booked for ‘rolling’ meals but on-the-day we had to all be served / eat together.

Hope to see you all next month at Porthpean for the President’s Shield.

WHS Update

WHS have made changes to the Handicapping system by adding (Course Rating – Course Par) to the current Course Handicap!
This change will affect lower handicap golfers more than higher ones.
It is now possible to submit a 4BBB score for handicap under certain conditions.
There is also a change to the score recorded for a hole not played.

The details can be found by clicking this link – WHS Changes
