Spring Shield – The Point @Polzeath 22/03/26
CSGA SPRING SHIELD EVENT
THE POINT, POLZEATH
WEDNESDAY 22 APRIL 2026
On a really blustery day that came close to blowing the Captain’s syrup off, 42 hardy souls battled the wind in the hope of winning the world renowned and much sought after CSGA Spring Shield. LIV golfers may have their millions but that is nothing compared to dreaming of winning the Spring Shield.
The easterly wind meant that what was index 2 was no more than a drive and gentle wedge whereas index 17 was a drive and 5 iron at least. Well it was for us alpha males. The greens on the front nine were like glass and those on the back resembled shag pile carpet in their speed. And the rough was deep enough to make it a 10 hour wait at Treliske A&E if you didn’t take your medicine and chip it out.
That did not dampen the spirits at the 19th and plenty of banter including bad luck, it was his fault, how did that stay out and the usual we wuz robbed.
Don’t tell HMRC but we raised £165 on the raffle which helps to keep the costs down and Alan in monthly holidays and cruises.
Thanks to The Point for hosting us and especially to all the staff who are always cheerful, helpful and courteous.
RESULTS
- A PRICE/M GREEN 41
- D AMBROSE/PJONES 40
- S ANDREW/P DICKSON
T Pendleton won nearest the pin and there were twos for M Broomhead, J McConnell, M Cuffin and P Dickson. Congratulations.
Steve Marks, Treasurer.
County Matches 2026
The annual county matches against Devon took place on
Monday 11 May @Tavistock
Monday 18 May @Launceston
Lucky with the weather at both events these were very tight matches. It was 4-4 at Tavistock and would you believe it, 4-4 at Launceston. This brings the totals match results since 2000 when the matches for our Salver trophy started to 13-13 (no event in 2020 due to Covid). 4 halved matches and 11 wins each.
Could not be closer and all to play for in 2027!
Thanks to all who played in the matches for supporting these annual fixtures.

WHS Update
WHS have made changes to the Handicapping system by adding (Course Rating – Course Par) to the current Course Handicap!
This change will affect lower handicap golfers more than higher ones.
It is now possible to submit a 4BBB score for handicap under certain conditions.
There is also a change to the score recorded for a hole not played.
The details can be found by clicking this link – WHS Changes
